Hundreds of South Floridians are lacing up for the planet on Sunday, April 27th, for the RACE FOR OUR FUTURE®, Earth Day 5K dedicated to environmental action, community resilience, and sustainability.
Hosted yearly by The CLEO Institute, this family-friendly event will transform The Underline, Miami’s iconic trail, into a moving celebration of our planet – with music, an awards ceremony, refreshments, and an interactive Eco-Village for all ages.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Commissioner Eileen Higgins, and Miami Run Founder Frankie Ruiz are among those expected to join this plastic-free community event.
“This race is a celebration of everything we love about Miami and our connection to the beautiful place we call home,”said Yoca Arditi-Rocha, Executive Director of The CLEO Institute.“It’s a reminder that protecting our Miami and our planet is our collective responsibility. Together, we’re running, or walking, to protect the places and people we love.”
With Miami considered “ground zero” for climate change impacts, participants can run, walk, or stroll for “what matters most” to them — be itclean air, clean waterorfuture generations– along a scenic route from Brickell Station to Vizcaya and back.
“This race means a lot to me personally,”saidFrankie Ruiz, founder of Miami Run Club and the Miami Marathon, who helped in planning the event.“Igrew up here watching our bay and beaches change — more pollution, fewer fish — and it breaks my heart. This race is a way to stand up for the places that raised us.”
This year’s race holds special significance as CLEO celebrates 15 years of advancing environmental education and mobilizing frontline communities, women, and youth to tackle the climate crisis.
“For 15 years, CLEO has been committed to empowering thepublic with the knowledge and tools to spark environmental change,”said Caroline Lewis, Founder and Senior Advisor of The CLEO Institute.“This race is a reflection of that mission — an opportunity for local residents to come together, take a stand, and inspire tomorrow’s leaders.”
This year’s event was made possible in part through the generous support of The CLEO Collective members VoLo Foundation, Clif Family Foundation, Lynn & Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation, Curlers & Rogers Studio, NV2ACentralJV, and Universal Insurance Holdings. Refreshments and snacks for the race are being provided by Hoist IV-Level Hydration, CerveceríaLa Tropical and Whole Foods.
Proceeds from the event will support CLEO’s award-winning programs, including the Climate Resilient Schools Program and the Empowering Resilient Women initiative, which help students and womenprepare for a changing climate and champion a more sustainable future.
Can’t make it to race day? You can still support CLEO’s mission by making a donation or sponsoring a runner. Every contribution helps advance climate education and build a stronger and more resilient Miami. For more information, clickhere.
